According to Baba Joe, singer/songwriter for Prismatic Vortex, the name connotes "a kaleidoscope of sound pressurized by the container of consciousness." This Rock band* also includes Cyrus Stream (formerly of Kirtan Dub All Stars / and once a drummer for Michael Franti) as a percussionist, bassist, and vocalist, and Ky Primo, (previously with the all female group Mother Nature's Army / and later drummer for Nouveaux Riches) as a percussionist, bassist, and vocalist.
Although the name may seem like a sci-fi movie title or perhaps the solution to a quantum physics equation, to Baba Joe Prismatic Vortex, "Represents a container for a bourgeoning consciousness that since the 1960's has grown and fractalized. One result of this is new angles of sound." He considers the band to be a part of a genre he dubbed, 'Spirit Pop', which includes a growing niche of diverse contemporary artists such as Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Nahko Bear & Medicine for the People, Devandra Banhart, Jack White, Rising Appalachia, Trevor Hall, Dudley Perkins, Saul Williams, and also more mainstream artists like Adele, Lorde, Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey and Radiohead.
Joe and Cyrus have been playing together for almost a year now at Cyrus' crib in Venice. Cyrus' roommate Ky Primo, a native of Hawaii, recently joined the group a few weeks back. Currently, they are maturing a pocket sound (something like shoe gazy psychedelic folk rock) and developing their first EP, entitled INFINITE ANGLES, to be recorded entirely in 432 Hz.
